600+ TINS to be sold as a set

Photos of some of the tins

List of all the tins.

The history of this tin collection:
The owner and her husband lost their home in a fire in 1971. He was a potter and elementary school art teacher, and she, a high school librarian. After that loss, she went for years without collecting anything, and, in fact, without feeling secure in accumulating any material goods.

Then in 1981, after her husband had a kidney transplant and was in failing health, her father brought her some beautiful old tins he found in his garage while cleaning. She found they looked attractive and became interested in their history and the stories of their use. She was hooked!

From that point on, she stopped at every antique store, garage sale, and flea market all over the country. She bought additional shelving and delighted in the art of display, blending colors and designs to fit the tins into decorative focal points of the rooms. At one time she had nearly 1,000 tins!

After her husband died, however, the joy of the tin collection diminished. She gave away 200 to a local charity to sell with Christmas cookies for a fund raiser; donated many to people who worked for, or had some family ties with, the original companies; and discarded tins that were rusted or badly marked.

The current list numbers more than 600 tins. New tins, reproductions, and not yet aged collectibles are marked with an x on the list. The owner is not interested in selling this collection by the piece. Only people interested in buying the entire collection should request the list or make an offer. Several years ago the book value of the tins was approximately $12,000 US. As the owner is anxious to get rid of the collection, all serious offers will be considered.
